The millionaire pretended to be asleep to test his shy maid, but when he opened his eyes and saw what she was doing, his heart stopped…

Part 1 of 2

In a majestic mansion located in the hills of Madrid, Alejandro Duval , a young businessman as powerful as he was lonely, lived surrounded by everything that money could buy: luxury cars, Italian suits, gold watches and a privileged view of the horizon.

But there was one thing money never gave him: inner peace.

He had a reputation for being ruthless, calculating, a man who trusted numbers more than people. Until that night when he decided to test his new housekeeper , a shy young woman named Lucía Navarro , with a sweet look and hands that spoke more sincerely than her lips.

AN UNEXPECTED TEST

Lucía had been working at the house for just three weeks. Always discreet, always punctual, with a humility that disconcerted Alejandro.
She didn’t ask for anything, didn’t speak more than necessary, and never looked up when he passed by.

One night, driven by a mixture of curiosity and distrust, Alejandro decided to pretend to sleep in the great hall.
He had heard stories of employees stealing jewelry, money, or important documents. He wanted to know who that silent woman walking barefoot through the halls after midnight really was.

He turned off the lights, lay back on the couch, and closed his eyes. He pretended to breathe deeply, waiting to hear footsteps.

And he heard them.

Lucia entered cautiously, thinking he was asleep. In her hands she carried a blanket and a small cup of tea. Alejandro, intrigued, held his breath.

THE GESTURE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Lucia approached slowly, placed the tea on the table, and covered the millionaire with the blanket .
She did so with a delicacy that had nothing servility about it; it was pure tenderness, almost maternal.

Then, in a low voice, he murmured something that chilled Alexander’s heart:

“I hope one day you can truly rest, Mr. Duval. Not with your eyes closed… but with your soul at peace.”

Alejandro wanted to open his eyes, but he couldn’t. Something in her words had paralyzed him.
Lucía didn’t know he was listening.
She didn’t know that, at that moment, the richest man in Madrid felt for the first time what it meant to be poor… in love.

She picked up a photo that had fallen from the sofa: a picture of a blonde woman with a small child—the wife and son Alejandro had lost in an accident five years earlier.
Lucía caressed the photo tenderly and, with a sigh, placed it on the sleeping businessman’s chest.

Then she knelt in front of the sofa, closed her eyes and prayed silently for him.

A NIGHT OF REVELATION

Minutes later, as she stood up to leave, Alejandro opened his eyes .
Lucía jumped, dropping her teacup.

—“Sir, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…” —he stammered.

But he interrupted her gently:

“Why were you praying for me?”

Lucia blushed. She looked down and replied:

“Because no one should sleep alone with so much pain, sir. Sometimes the soul needs company too.”

The silence stretched into eternity. Outside, the rain began to fall gently, as if heaven itself were listening to the confession.
