Lip reader reveals the two words Camilla said to Catherine at Remembrance Sunday service

A subtle yet touching exchange between Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine at this year’s Remembrance Sunday ceremony has captured public attention, as a body language expert analyzed the interaction between the two senior royals.

The Queen, 78, and the Princess of Wales, 43, stood together on the balcony of the Foreign Office overlooking the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London, as King Charles led the annual national service marking the end of the First World War. The event included a two-minute silence and wreath-laying, with Prince William and Prince Edward joining the King in leading the solemn tributes.

A “Playful Smile” Between Present and Future Queens

Body language specialist Judi James observed what she described as a moment of warmth and lightness between the two women. Speaking to the Daily Mail, she explained:
“There was an exchange of what looked like warm chat between the present and future queens here, with Camilla’s rather playful smile and side-eye appearing to make Kate beam back down at her.”

She added that Camilla seemed relaxed, occasionally stepping back and looking over her order of service, while Kate maintained a more composed and formal stance.
“Camilla looked happy to stand back a little, even mouthing a silent ‘wow,’ while Kate stood as the more dominant royal — poised, calm, and focused straight ahead,” James noted.
“This was a slightly warmer and more relaxed royal box than usual, with what appeared to be less emphasis on protocol and pecking order.”

At one point during the service, Queen Camilla appeared visibly moved as she surveyed the ceremony from above. Lip reader Jacqui Press confirmed that Camilla softly murmured, “Oh wow,” to Princess Catherine — a quiet but emotional reaction to the gravity of the moment.

Elegance in Mourning

Both royal women dressed in traditional black to honor the fallen. Queen Camilla wore a high-collared dress by Catherine Walker, paired with a black lace scarf and a large Lock Hatters’ percher hat worth around £1,295. She accessorized with her signature four-strand pearl necklace featuring a diamond clasp, reportedly valued at £50,000.

Princess Catherine paid tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, by wearing the Collingwood pearl earrings once belonging to her. She also honored her grandfather, Peter Middleton, by donning his Royal Air Force gold winged brooch.

As the service progressed, both women appeared visibly moved while singing the national anthem and watching wreaths being laid at the Cenotaph.

A Nation in Reflection

Elsewhere, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and the Duke of Kent looked emotional from the left balcony, while the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester watched from the right.

Former Prime Ministers David Cameron, Tony Blair, and Gordon Brown stood together at the front of the Cenotaph, joined by political leaders Sir Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch, who each laid wreaths in remembrance.

This year’s Remembrance Sunday held special significance as it marked the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Across the Commonwealth, people gathered to honor the bravery and sacrifice of servicemen and women who gave their lives in duty — a sentiment clearly reflected in the quiet emotion shared between the Queen and the Princess of Wales.
