Princess Kate set to honour major tradition next month as she gears up for next appearance

The Princess of Wales is usually a Wimbledon regular, and has the honour of presenting the trophy to the Men’s Singles winner.

Princess Kate regularly attends Wimbledon each year and the All England Club are hopeful that she’ll make an appearance this year.

All England Club chair Debbie Jevans told Telegraph Sport that they will give her “as much flexibility as possible” as she continues her cancer treatment.

The Princess of Wales, who has been largely out of the spotlight this year due to her ongoing cancer treatment, has been patron of the All England Club since 2016.

Ms Jevans told the publication: “We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority.”

It comes after royal commentator Emily Andrews said she was eyeing up Wimbledon for her next appearance, having stepped out for the first time this year at Trooping the Colour earlier this month. Ms Andrews said: “Her treatment is ongoing, and will be for the next few months, but I understand she would like to visit the Wimbledon tennis tournament – she is a patron – if she feels up to it.”

Ms Jevans went on to say that while they are hopeful Kate will attend the famous tennis tournament, they have had no official confirmation from Kensington Palace.

“We don’t know what we don’t know,” she said. “All we’ve said is that we’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.

“I don’t know who would present the trophies as an alternative – that’s something to consider nearer the time if necessary.

“We’re staying flexible. When we hear we’ll then think about what’s the right thing to do.”

Since Prince George – who later became King George V – became the club’s first President in 1907, 10 royals have presented the Wimbledon trophies.

The Princess of Wales took over the role of patron from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The late monarch, who died in 2022, had served as patron from 1952 to 2016 and, like Kate, presented the trophies on several occasions.

Princess Kate made her first public appearance this year earlier this month at the annual Trooping the Colour.

The 42-year-old delighted fans by appearing on the Buckingham Palace alongside other senior royals, such as the King, Queen, Prince William and their three children.

Although she made an appearance in London, the next time she will appear publicly remains unknown.

Kate released a statement on June 14 confirming her attendance at the King’s Birthday Parade, where she also gave a personal update on her health.

She wrote: “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
