Princess Kate back at Wimbledon! Royal joined by Charlotte for rare appearance

Princess Charlotte is joining her mum, Princess Kate, and aunt Pippa Middleton at the final of the Wimbledon Championships.

Princess Charlotte has arrived in SW19 with her mum, Princess Kate, to sit in the royal box at the Wimbledon Championships 2024 this afternoon, along with Kate’s younger sister Pippa Middleton.

Princess Kate entered with her daughter and chatted to members of staff before making her way to Centre Court, wearing a purple dress by Safiyaa.

Charlotte, nine, is no stranger to centre court as last year she attended the Wimbledon Single Men’s final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic along with her older brother Prince George, which saw Carlos clinch the winner’s trophy.

The two royals were jumping and cheering for joy as they could not contain their excitement as the match became increasingly tense. Princess Charlotte and Prince George coordinated for the event in blue – George wore a suit and tie while Charlotte sported a patterned dress.

On the Player’s Lawn, Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte met two groups – one of female players and one of people on the ‘Work at Wimbledon’ programmme which supports young people from a range of backgrounds with roles at the Championships.

The Princess of Wales, who is patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, is expected to present the trophy to the winner of the coveted Men’s Singles Final.

The Women’s Single’s Final on July 12 saw Barbora Krejcikova beat Jasmine Paolini in three sets to win her second grand slam title. The 28-year-old became the second Czech player in as many years to win the Venus Rosewater Dish after Marketa Vondrousova’s victory last year.

The announcement comes days after Wimbledon said they were working on “backup plans” in case the Princess, who is undergoing preventative chemotherapy, was unable to attend this year.

Kate paid tribute to Andy Murray earlier during the tennis tournament, saying he should be “so very proud” after he missed out on a final match at Wimbledon. In a personally signed message on social media, Kate wrote: “An incredible Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud Andy Murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.”

Sir Andy was due to play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu but the former US Open champion pulled out of the clash, citing stiffness in her right wrist.

Also, Kensington Palace confirmed on Friday that William will attend Sunday’s Euro 2024 final in Berlin to watch England take on Spain.

William, who is president of the FA, also attended the side’s quarter-final victory over Switzerland on Saturday and the group-stage game against Denmark.

King Charles has congratulated the England men’s football team on reaching the final of Euro 2024 – but urged them to avoid more last-minute drama.
