After living in Los Angeles for more than 20 years, Ozzy Osbourne made headlines in August 2022 when he announced that he and his wife, Sharon Osbourne, planned to move back to the UK.
However, nearly two years later, the couple has yet to make the move. They discussed the delay in a recent episode of The Osbournes Podcast, which aired on Tuesday, July 16.
“We’re trying to get on a flight,” Ozzy, 75, said when asked by a listener about the relocation.
Sharon, 71, explained that Ozzy’s health has been the main obstacle to the move. In a January podcast interview, the Black Sabbath frontman shared that he has had “seven surgeries in the past five years,” including his fourth spinal surgery in September 2023. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2003 and continues to see specialists for its treatment.
“It just seems that every time we’re set to go, something happens with Ozzy’s health,” Sharon remarked on Tuesday.
“We’ll get there,” Sharon said. “We want to go back so bad, but we’ll get there. Won’t we, Ozzy?”
“Yeah,” he replied, with Sharon encouraging him further. “We will.”
Ozzy had previously mentioned that the turbulent political climate and escalating gun violence in the United States were significant reasons behind his desire to leave.
“Everything’s f—— ridiculous there,” he told The Observer in an interview published on Aug. 28, 2022. “I’m fed up with people getting killed every day. God knows how many people have been shot in school shootings. And there was that mass shooting in Vegas at that concert… It’s f—— crazy.”
“I don’t want to die in America,” Ozzy added, expressing disdain for the renowned cemetery in Los Angeles. “I don’t want to be buried in f—— Forest Lawn. I’m English. I want to be back. It’s just time for me to come home.”
Sharon agreed, stating, “America has changed so drastically. It isn’t the United States of America at all. Nothing’s united about it. It’s a very weird place to live right now.”
At the time, The Observer reported that the couple, parents to Kelly Osbourne, 39; Jack Osbourne, 38; and Aimee Osbourne, 40, along with Jessica and Louis, Ozzy’s children from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, had planned to return to the United Kingdom in February 2023.
Additionally, the website stated that at the time, they were remodeling their home in Buckinghamshire to add an Ozzy music studio and a swimming pool.
The Osbournes Podcast has been featuring frequent health updates from Ozzy. He boasted in January about the benefits of sobriety after decades of struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, saying that a visit to the doctor showed that “my blood clots are gone” and “everything’s back to normal.”
The emotional toll of his health issues has deeply affected the singer. When a listener asked during Tuesday’s episode about “the one thing you’ve lost, misplaced or given up you wish you could have again,” Ozzy responded, “My health.”
“When you lose your health, nothing else f—— matters,” he stated.
