Kensington Palace forced to quickly remove awkward blunder in latest Prince William post

Kensington Palace swiftly corrected an embarrassing mistake in a social media post about Prince William.

The Prince resumed his official duties after a Caribbean vacation by meeting football manager Thomas Tuchel at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, February 25.

As the patron of the Football Association (FA), William had a conversation with Tuchel, and a photo from their meeting was posted on the official social media accounts of the Prince and Princess of Wales, accompanied by a caption.

The original post said: “Great to meet new @england manager Thomas Tuchel for the first time today, and hear about plans for the team.”

However, it was quickly taken down and re-uploaded with a slight revision in the caption:

“Great to meet new @england men’s manager Thomas Tuchel for the first time today, and hear about plans for the team.”

Can you spot the change? While Tuchel is indeed in charge of the men’s national squad, the England women’s team is coached by Sarina Wiegman.

Prince William spent over an hour in discussion with Tuchel, during which the German coach shared insights into his vision for the team’s future.

Tuchel, a former footballer from Germany who transitioned into coaching in 2000, now faces the challenge of guiding the Three Lions to glory at the 2026 World Cup.

William had previously expressed his enthusiasm for Thomas stepping into the prestigious role, showing his support after the appointment. He shared, “Exciting times for @England, with a generation of talented players and a new manager taking the reins. Thomas, wishing you the best of luck, we’re all behind you! W.”

As reported by The Mirror, a royal insider revealed that during their conversation, they also discussed the impressive performance of William’s beloved football club, Aston Villa.

Later on, Thomas was spotted attending a match featuring Crystal Palace, which was playing against Aston Villa in England’s top-tier league.

Appointed in October, he officially assumed his duties on January 1. His first major challenge will come in the form of the European Championship qualifiers, with England set to face Albania on March 21 and Latvia just three days later.

Previously, William had also publicly acknowledged Gareth Southgate, who led the England men’s national team from 2016 to 2024.

Back in July 2024, William paid tribute to Southgate, saying: “Gareth, I want to thank you – not as the President of the @FA, but as an @England fan. Thank you for creating a team that stands shoulder to shoulder with the world’s finest in 2024. Thank you for showing humility, compassion, and true leadership under the most intense pressure and scrutiny.”
