The Queen made a brutal six-word joke about Donald Trump during his first presidency

The late Queen Elizabeth II once made a playful remark about US President Donald Trump during his first term in office.

Trump became the 47th president of the United States earlier this year, but his first term took place from 2017 to 2021.

Although members of the British royal family are expected to stay neutral on political matters and avoid taking any political stance, the Queen did make a comment about Trump in 2018 during a conversation with Sir David Attenborough.

The six-word remark was made while they were filming an ITV documentary in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

During their discussion, a helicopter flew overhead, interrupting their conversation.

As it flew overhead, the Queen remarked, “Why do they go round and round when you want to talk?” She then humorously added, “Sounds like President Trump, or President Obama.”

Meanwhile, King Charles has extended an invitation to Trump for a second state visit.

During a visit to the White House last month, Prime Minister Keir Starmer handed over an invitation from the monarch to the US president.

Starmer described Trump’s previous visit as a ‘tremendous success,’ while Trump himself said it would be an ‘honour’ to visit again.

The invitation comes on the heels of Trump’s announcement regarding his ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs, where he unveiled a list of reciprocal tariffs that he plans to impose on several countries worldwide, as revealed last week.

The 78-year-old Republican kicked off the highly anticipated speech with the declaration: “We’ve been waiting for a long time, April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America’s destiny was reclaimed, and the day that we began to ‘Make America Wealthy Again’.”

“For years, hard-working American citizens were forced to sit on the sidelines as other nations got rich and powerful, much of it at our expense. But now it’s our turn to prosper,” he added.

“This will be the golden age of America. It’s coming back.”

Tariffs are essentially taxes imposed on imported goods.

It’s the importers who purchase these goods that bear the cost of the tariffs. This means that, for the US, American companies will be the ones paying the higher taxes.

As global stock markets dropped sharply after the announcement, Trump reassured worried Americans, urging them not to ‘be panicans’.

“The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!),” he said.

“Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!”
