Meghan Markle Shares Heartfelt Story of Loss and Resilience

Meghan Markle, now 43, recently opened up about one of the most emotional chapters of her life during an episode of her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.

Her candid sharing of personal grief has touched many listeners, with social media users expressing admiration for her honesty and strength.

Comments of support quickly poured in. One person wrote, “Be kind to everyone. No one knows the things they are dealing with, ever.” Another added simply, “You stay strong Meghan.” Others praised her vulnerability: “It’s very brave of you, Meghan, to talk about this. Thank you,” while another listener remarked, “Meghan is really strong. Thanks for speaking out.”

In 2020, Meghan had first spoken about her miscarriage in a deeply moving essay for The New York Times, where she described feeling a sudden cramp while changing her son Archie’s diaper that July. The moment marked the beginning of a painful experience that would stay with her and Prince Harry.

Recounting that day on her podcast, Meghan recalled feeling unwell at home in Los Angeles, which led to a hospital visit. In a conversation with Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani—who had also experienced a miscarriage—Meghan reflected, “I’ve spoken about the miscarriage we endured, and I think in some parallel way, you need to learn to detach from something you had so much promise and hope for, to eventually reach a point where you can let it go.” Saujani responded, “I feel like you’re reading my diary, that’s really insightful.”

Prince Harry also recounted the loss in his memoir Spare, describing how the couple grieved together after leaving the hospital. “A tiny package,” he wrote. “We ventured to a secret place known only to us. Beneath a broad banyan tree, as Meg mourned, I gently placed that tiny package into the earth with my hands.”

Meghan also touched on another medical crisis during the launch episode of her podcast, revealing she had experienced a “huge medical scare” after childbirth. In conversation with Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble, the two discussed their experiences with postpartum preeclampsia—a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs soon after giving birth.

The Mayo Clinic defines postpartum preeclampsia as high blood pressure and protein in the urine that develops after delivery and can lead to complications like seizures if untreated.

Reflecting on that period, Meghan shared, “The world remains unaware of silent battles. Despite the quiet, you strive to be there for people, especially your children, amidst significant medical scares.”
