Kate Middleton shows off ‘impressive’ singing talent in adorable clip from school play

Long before she became the Princess of Wales, a young Kate Middleton once stepped into the spotlight—not on the world stage, but on the wooden floors of a school auditorium. At just 11 years old, Catherine wowed classmates, teachers, and eventually the world with her performance in a school production of My Fair Lady.

A Royal Talent Remembered

The moment, recorded at St Andrew’s School in Pangbourne, Berkshire, captured young Kate as she played the iconic role of Eliza Doolittle. Draped in a shawl and holding a basket, she embraced the role fully—complete with a convincing Cockney accent—while singing the classic number Wouldn’t It Be Loverly.

Though filmed in the early 1990s, the clip resurfaced online in 2014 and has continued to cycle through the internet every few years, drawing admiration each time.

Why This Performance Still Resonates

What makes this particular school play so captivating isn’t just the fact that it features a future queen—but how confidently and expressively young Kate delivers her part. Many viewers have commented on her rhythm, pitch, and stage presence—qualities rarely mastered by children of that age.

“She was note perfect,” one commenter wrote. “That level of musical timing and vocal control at 11 is truly exceptional.”

Another viewer said: “She would’ve held her own on a professional stage!”

A Musical Soul Beneath Royal Duties

While Catherine hasn’t pursued public singing into adulthood, her connection to music remains visible. Throughout her school years, she played the piano, sang in choirs, and performed with a senior flute group affectionately known as the “Tootie-Flooties.” She also served as deputy head chorister in her school’s chapel choir.

In more recent years, her musical background came back into public view. During the 2021 Christmas Eve Carol Service at Westminster Abbey, the Princess surprised many by performing a heartfelt piano accompaniment. And during the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, she even made a short, elegant cameo—once again seated at the piano.

Beyond the Stage

Kate later attended St. Andrew’s University, where she would eventually meet her husband, Prince William. While her career took a very different direction, the glimpses of her early talent remain a charming reminder of the grace and poise she carried long before becoming a royal.
