Buckingham Palace addresses King Charles’ bl00dshot eye following state visit from President Macron

Earlier today, King Charles and Queen Camilla officially welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte to the UK, marking the beginning of their state visit.

The royal reception took place on a specially built Royal Dais near Windsor and Eton Riverside train station, with Windsor Castle offering a regal backdrop.

Prince William and Kate Middleton played a key role in the greeting, accompanying the French couple from RAF Northolt in west London and joining them on the 14-mile journey to Windsor.

King Charles Appears with Eye Condition

Observers couldn’t help but notice a burst blood vessel in King Charles’ right eye during the event. Buckingham Palace later released a statement via GB News to clarify the situation.

According to a Palace spokesperson, the condition was caused by a burst blood vessel that developed overnight and is not connected to the King’s ongoing cancer treatment. “There is no cause for concern,” the statement emphasized.

The Mayo Clinic describes such an eye condition, known as a subconjunctival hemorrhage, as typically harmless. It may look worrying but usually resolves itself within a couple of weeks. “Even a strong sneeze or cough can cause it,” the clinic notes, adding that it doesn’t require treatment.

Princess Kate Resumes Duties Amid Cancer Recovery

Meanwhile, Princess Kate has been slowly returning to public life while continuing her recovery from cancer. Following a moving statement last week about the emotional toll of treatment, she stepped out for a rare official engagement at Colchester Hospital on July 2.

During the visit, the 43-year-old Princess of Wales opened up about the challenges of transitioning into her post-treatment phase. “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” she explained. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

Kate, who revealed her diagnosis in March 2024 and later confirmed her remission in January, admitted that returning to everyday life has not been as simple as she hoped. “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she said.

She also emphasized the importance of support during this period. “Someone to help talk you through that… and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”

A “Life-Changing” Experience for the Whole Family

Kate, who shares three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—with Prince William, described her health journey as “life-changing” not only for her, but for her entire family.

“You have to find your new normal and that takes time,” she reflected. “And it’s a rollercoaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times.”

As both King Charles and Princess Kate navigate their health challenges, their ongoing public appearances—such as today’s state visit and Kate’s recent hospital engagement—serve as reminders of their commitment to royal duty, even amid personal trials.
