Meghan Markle’s hatred of ‘tiny’ home at Kensington Palace sparked her longstanding resentment of William and Kate, royal insider claims

A small but significant issue reportedly triggered Meghan Markle’s long-running grievance with Prince William and Princess Catherine, according to royal insider Tom Quinn.

The Kensington Palace Home Dispute

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex began their life together in the UK in 2017, they moved into Nottingham Cottage, a 17th-century residence on the grounds of Kensington Palace. The home featured prominently in the Netflix series Harry & Meghan, with scenes of the couple enjoying their early days together, tending the garden, and playing with Meghan’s dog, Guy.

However, beneath the idyllic image, tensions were brewing. Just three years later, in 2020, Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and relocated to the United States.

Perceptions of Inequality

In his book Yes Ma’am, Quinn claims that Meghan’s early dissatisfaction with their home played a role in their eventual decision to leave. She reportedly viewed the cottage as “tiny” compared to Apartment 1A, the expansive residence where William and Catherine lived with their three children.

According to Quinn, Meghan saw this contrast as symbolic of how the royal family undervalued Harry. She allegedly believed palace staff already treated him as less important than his elder brother, and the housing disparity reinforced her sense that the couple was being sidelined.

“The Start of the Grievance”

A palace source told Quinn that Meghan made Harry more aware of his position as the “spare,” and that this awareness marked “the start of the whole grievance thing.”

At the same time, Meghan was accused of sending strongly worded emails to palace staff at 5am, allegations she has denied. Quinn writes that this alleged flurry of emails created a “toxic environment” and reached William in what he describes as a “dossier of distress.” The situation reportedly prompted William to confront Harry, further straining relations between the brothers.

Recent Developments

This account emerges as Meghan recently celebrated her 44th birthday amid reports of a “peace summit” between King Charles and Harry’s representatives at Clarence House last month. The Duke is said to have given his “blessing” for the meeting between aides, marking what some view as a notable step in easing the royal rift.
