Even members of the Royal Family couldn’t resist celebrating the news that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are officially engaged.
The Announcement Fans Have Been Waiting For
On Tuesday, August 26, the couple shared the big news on social media, posting a series of photos capturing the special moment.
In one shot, the pair looked blissfully happy together in a rose garden in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, while another showed Travis down on one knee. Taylor was also photographed wearing her stunning engagement ring — a brilliant old mine-cut diamond in a gold bezel setting, designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.
Their post, which has already racked up more than 27 million likes in under 12 hours, carried a playful caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Royal Fans Show Their Support
Among the many who liked the post were the Prince and Princess of Wales, confirming their support for the couple.
Back in June, Taylor surprised fans by posting a selfie with Prince William and his children after the family attended one of her Eras Tour shows. The sweet snapshot featured William, George, and Charlotte posing with Taylor and Travis backstage.
Travis’ brother, Jason Kelce, who was also there, later recalled the moment on their New Heights podcast: “I gotta say, Prince William was fantastic but the highlight was Princess Charlotte. Prince George was great too, but she was so f**king adorable. I can’t express, maybe it’s because I have three girls, she had fire to her, she was asking questions, that was the most electric part.”
The Wales family weren’t the only royals to show their excitement. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, reportedly attended one of Taylor’s concerts earlier this year and also liked the couple’s engagement post from her account, @meghan.
When Did the Proposal Happen?
While fans eagerly speculated about the timing of the proposal, Travis’ father, Ed Kelce, offered some insight. Speaking to News 5’s John Kosich on August 27, he revealed: “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago. He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.”
Ed added: “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event… when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
