Meghan Markle Announces Heartbreaking Baby News

Meghan Markle has spoken candidly about one of the most painful experiences of her life, revealing new details about her miscarriage during a deeply personal podcast episode.

In the latest installment of her series Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex reflected on the loss of her second child in 2020. The conversation, which she shared with Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani, struck a chord with listeners who praised her honesty and strength.

“I’ve spoken about the miscarriage that we experienced,” Meghan said. “In some parallel way, you have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for, and to be able to be okay at a certain point to let something go — something that you planned to love for a long time.”

Saujani, who has also endured miscarriages, responded emotionally: “I feel like you’re reading my diary, that’s really insightful.”

The Loss That Shook the Sussexes

Back in 2020, Meghan wrote about the devastating experience in a New York Times essay. She described feeling a sharp cramp while changing son Archie’s diaper, before being rushed to the hospital in Los Angeles.

Prince Harry later revisited the moment in his memoir Spare, recalling how he and Meghan “both wept” as they left the hospital without their baby. He described how they found comfort in a private ritual, burying “a tiny package” beneath a banyan tree.

“It was the only way we knew how to say goodbye,” he wrote.

Postpartum Health Struggles

The miscarriage is not the only health scare Meghan has faced since becoming a mother. In an earlier podcast episode, she revealed that she developed postpartum preeclampsia after giving birth — a rare but dangerous condition marked by high blood pressure and excess protein in the urine.

Speaking with Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, who experienced something similar, Meghan explained: “The world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly. And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people — mostly for your children — but those things are huge medical scares.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, postpartum preeclampsia requires urgent treatment and, if left unaddressed, can lead to seizures and other life-threatening complications.

Support From Around the World

After the podcast aired, social media was flooded with supportive messages for the duchess. One listener wrote: “Be kind to everyone. No one knows the things they are dealing with, ever.” Another added: “It’s very brave of you, Meghan, to talk about this. Thank you.”

For Meghan, sharing her story seems to be about more than revisiting her pain. It is also a way to bring hidden struggles into the light — and remind others that they are not alone.
