Prince Harry issued rare update on King Charles following their first meeting in over a year

Prince Harry has given a rare update on his father, King Charles III, after the pair reunited in London this week — their first face-to-face meeting in more than a year.

The father and son last saw each other in February 2023, when Harry rushed from California to the UK following Charles’s cancer diagnosis. Nineteen months later, on Tuesday (10 September), they came together again at Clarence House.

A 54-minute private meeting

The reunion, which had been widely anticipated by royal watchers, reportedly lasted 54 minutes. It came just a few months after Harry expressed hope of reconciling with his family during an interview in May.

Shortly after leaving Clarence House, Harry attended an Invictus Games reception at The Gherkin, where he mingled with corporate sponsors and government ministers. When asked by a reporter how the King was doing, Harry kept his response brief but positive: “Yes, he’s great, thank you.”

The last time father and son met in person was immediately after the Palace announced the King’s health concerns in early 2023. That meeting, which lasted just over half an hour, took place without Meghan Markle or the couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet.

Harry’s donation to support young people

The reunion came just a day after Harry made headlines for a personal donation of £1.1 million to Nottingham’s Community Recording Studio. The charity, supported by Children in Need, works with young people affected by violence.

Harry emphasized that the gift came from his own funds rather than his Archewell foundation, saying he hoped it would help “changemakers in the city continue their mission to create safe spaces and offer hope and belonging to young people who need it most.”

The donation was praised by many as heartfelt and genuine, though critics were quick to dismiss it as part of a “charm offensive.” Supporters, however, defended Harry, pointing to his consistent advocacy for youth and mental health.

Final day in the UK

Harry’s four-day trip concludes today (11 September). Before flying back to California to rejoin Meghan and their children, he is expected to attend a final engagement in London with the Diana Award, the charity set up in his mother’s memory.
