Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Make Heartbreaking Confession About Daughter Lilibet

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have made an emotional decision about their daughter Lilibet Diana’s christening that has left many royal fans deeply moved.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are raising Archie and Lilibet in Montecito, California, chose to baptize their daughter in a private ceremony at their home in March 2023, nearly two years after her birth. But what captured attention was not only the intimate setting, but the date they chose to share the news with the world.

On March 8, 2023, the couple announced Lilibet’s christening. To many, the date may have seemed unremarkable, yet it carried powerful meaning. It fell on International Women’s Day, a symbolic occasion for their daughter, and also marked exactly six months since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II — the beloved monarch whose childhood nickname, Lilibet, inspired the little girl’s name. The timing was widely seen as a tender tribute to Harry’s grandmother.

This wasn’t the first time the Sussexes tied a personal milestone to a meaningful date. When Meghan’s pregnancy with Lilibet was revealed on February 14, 2021, it echoed a poignant family parallel: Princess Diana had announced her pregnancy with Harry on Valentine’s Day in 1984. Harry later admitted in his Netflix series that the coincidence left him “shocked,” wondering whether it had been pure chance or something greater at work.

In his memoir Spare, Harry recalled yet another striking alignment with his mother’s memory: his first long conversation with Meghan began on July 1, 2016 — what would have been Diana’s fifty-fifth birthday. These uncanny connections, he wrote, felt both surreal and deeply moving.

The Duke has often spoken about parallels between Meghan and his late mother, though he was reportedly disappointed that his family did not see the same resemblance. According to biographer Tom Bower, Diana’s sisters and brother expressed doubts about Meghan’s place within the royal fold, at William’s urging. Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother, even advised Harry to slow down before marriage, advice that created tension.

Still, Harry has remained vocal about the emotional bond he feels between his wife and his mother’s legacy, a connection that only deepened with the naming of his daughter. By choosing such a symbolic day to share Lilibet’s christening, the Sussexes once again tied one of their most personal family moments to Diana’s memory and to the enduring influence of Queen Elizabeth II.
