People spot King Charles’ reaction to Donald Trump’s subtle dig at Prince Harry during rare state dinner

Royal fans are convinced Donald Trump made a subtle jab at Prince Harry during a glittering state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday night (September 17).

The former U.S. president, 79, and First Lady Melania Trump, 55, are currently in the UK for a two-day state visit, spending much of their time with King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Prince William and Princess Kate were also in attendance for the white-tie event, which brought 160 guests together in St George’s Hall.

Trump, who was seated beside the Princess of Wales, took to the lectern to deliver a formal speech. He began with praise for the “special” bond between the United States and Britain, describing the partnership as one “joined by history and faith, by love and language and by transcendent ties of culture, tradition, ancestry and destiny.”

“We’re like two notes in one chord or two verses of the same poem,” Trump said. “Each beautiful on its own, but really meant to be played together.”

The 45th president called his second state visit to Britain “one of the highest honours” of his life and spoke warmly of his respect for the UK. He then turned his attention to the royal family, offering particular praise to King Charles for raising Prince William.

“His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales,” Trump said. “Really amazing. We’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have an unbelievable success in future.”

It was that omission — singling out William while making no mention of Harry — that immediately set royal watchers talking. Many interpreted the comment as a deliberate snub to the Duke of Sussex, who remains estranged from the royal household.

Social media users poured over footage of the moment, with some suggesting Charles’ smile faltered when Trump made the remark. “The King was uncomfortable there,” one viewer wrote on Instagram, while another observed: “The King’s poker face is wavering.”

Others were more direct: “What about Harry?” one comment read. Another added: “Do your homework, Trump! The King has two sons!”

Trump also directed compliments toward the Princess of Wales, who announced earlier this year that she is in remission following cancer treatment.

“Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness, Princess Catherine, so radiant and so healthy, and so beautiful,” he said. “It’s really a great honour, thank you.”
