Donald and Melania Trump have wrapped up their three-day state visit to the UK, returning to the United States after a packed schedule filled with high-level meetings and royal encounters.
It marked the second time Donald Trump has been invited on a state visit — an unprecedented honor, following his first trip when he was received by the late Queen Elizabeth II. This time, the former president and first lady were welcomed at Windsor by Prince William and Princess Kate, before joining King Charles and Queen Camilla for a lavish state banquet.
Kate and Melania’s Joint Engagement
On Thursday, the spotlight shifted to Melania and Kate, who teamed up for a day of engagements. The pair toured Queen Mary’s Dolls House and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle before heading to Frogmore Gardens. There, they joined children from the Scouts’ Squirrels program for arts and crafts activities.
Melania knelt with youngsters pressing inked leaves onto paper and cheerfully remarked, “This is beautiful!” One child even took her by the hand to show off homemade “bug hotels,” prompting her to admit that her favorite insect is the ladybug.
Meanwhile, Kate sat on the grass chatting with other children about their projects. Both women brought thoughtful gifts: Kate packed sandwiches with honey from her family’s Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, while Melania offered honey sourced from the White House.
Royal expert Victoria Arbiter praised the outing, noting that it gave the first lady’s program “more substance,” while also highlighting how both women carefully championed designers from their home countries through their outfits.
A Subtle Tense Moment
For all the warmth on display, a body language expert later claimed there were hints of tension between the two women. Celebrity psychic and analyst Inbaal Honigman pointed to a photo showing Melania, Kate, and Queen Camilla chatting together.
According to Honigman, Camilla appeared the most at ease, standing with her feet apart, suggesting confidence. By contrast, Kate held her hands in front of her in a “slightly protective” gesture, while Melania’s tightly clenched fist indicated she may have felt “like a fish out of water.”
Even so, Honigman acknowledged that the women’s facial expressions were composed and calm, with all three maintaining neutral smiles throughout the exchange.
Looking Ahead
Whether the visit sparks a lasting friendship between Kate and Melania remains to be seen. What is certain is that the trip carried both ceremonial grandeur and quieter moments of human connection — and, as always with the royals and Trumps, no shortage of scrutiny.
