Major, a shelter dog from Indiana, is a touching example of how hard it can be for some animals to find a home. For more than 260 days, he has been waiting patiently, even though he has faced rejection from his previous owners. Despite this, the staff at the Hamilton County Humane Society still believes there’s a perfect family out there for him.

Major is a four-year-old terrier and pit bull mix. When he first arrived at the shelter, he stayed cheerful despite everything he had been through. The team at the shelter described him as a “sweet and sensitive” dog who enjoyed playtime, especially with his favorite Jolly Ball.

He quickly won the hearts of the staff and earned playful nicknames like “Major Hunk” and “Major Heartthrob.” These small moments showed how much the team cared about him. But even with his loving personality, potential adopters continued to overlook him.

As days turned into months, the ongoing rejection started to affect Major. The staff noticed that his bright and playful energy had begun to fade. “His spunky personality is dimming,” the shelter shared in a social media post. “This boy, who once loved to play with his ball, now often sits quietly in his room and cries.”

To help him cope, the team moved Major out of the kennels and into the visiting room, hoping it would make him feel more at ease. They also know that the sooner he finds a home, the better it will be for him. Major would do best in a home without small children or cats.

He usually gets along with other dogs, but because of his size and energy, the shelter recommends a meet-and-greet with potential adopters. While he may not fit every household, the team is hopeful there is someone out there who is just right for him.
