Donald Trump slammed with ‘inappropriate’ complaints over ‘gentlemanly’ attempt to help Princess Kate

Donald Trump has sparked criticism online for the way he interacted with Kate Middleton during his latest state visit to the UK.

The former US President spent part of the visit alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales, but his conduct at the royal banquet drew particular attention.

Trump’s Banquet Speech Praises the Royals

At the lavish state banquet held at Windsor Castle, Trump was seated beside the Princess of Wales. During his speech, he openly praised the royal family.

“I just wanna say that His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness Prince of Wales, really amazing,” Trump said. “Really amazing, we’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have an unbelievable success in future.”

He went on: “Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William, and to see her Royal Highness Princess Catherine.”

Turning directly to Kate, he added: “So radiant and so healthy, so beautiful, it’s a really great honour, thank you.”

The Chair Incident

Alongside his remarks, a moment captured on video added to the controversy. The clip shows Kate attempting to adjust her chair herself when a palace staff member moved in to assist. While still seated, Trump placed his hands on the back of her chair and appeared to try to help her slide in.

Observers were quick to comment. Some argued it wasn’t appropriate, pointing out that protocol usually leaves such tasks to staff.

“Well, if he was being a gentleman. He would have gotten up. Helped her then sat down,” one person wrote online. Another remarked, “There are staff employed to do that.”

Others dismissed the fuss, suggesting Trump’s gesture was simply courteous. “Yes, he’s a gentleman,” one user said, while another added: “Gentleman’s etiquette.”

Compliments Stir Mixed Reactions

Beyond the chair incident, Trump’s compliments to Kate drew sharp reactions from royal watchers. While some saw his words as harmless, others felt his praise went too far.

“He needs to quit talking about how beautiful the Princess of Wales is,” one commenter said. “It is wildly inappropriate. It’s good to see you looking healthy. That’s it full stop.”

Another social media user wrote: “Radiant, healthy, and beautiful made me cringe so hard I broke teeth.”
