Five royals could soon lose their titles under ‘executive royal order’

After Prince Andrew was forced last week to give up using his royal titles over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a royal expert has claimed that as many as five other royals could soon face the same fate.

While the Duke of York announced he would “no longer use” his HRH style, he technically remains both a duke and a prince — titles that can only be removed through an act of Parliament. However, according to ITV, Buckingham Palace is reluctant to use parliamentary time to pass such a measure, which would need to clear both the House of Commons and the House of Lords.

Royal expert Tom Sykes, speaking to The Daily Beast, suggested that Prince William would take a much firmer approach once he becomes king. Sources close to the Prince of Wales reportedly say that he intends to strip Andrew — along with all other non-working royals — of their HRH and princely titles in the early weeks of his reign.

“The dramatic change will be effected by an executive royal order known as letters patent, ratified by Parliament in the early weeks of the reign of King William V,” Sykes said.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie

Among those likely to be affected are Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, Andrew’s daughters. While neither has been implicated in their father’s scandal, they are not working royals — and that alone could cost them their titles.

Beatrice, 37, works as a strategist for the technology company Afiniti, while her younger sister Eugenie, 35, serves as a director at the Mayfair art gallery Hauser & Wirth. Under William’s modernized monarchy, Sykes claims, both women could lose the right to be called princesses or to use the HRH style.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

More controversially, Sykes predicts that William also plans to remove royal titles from his younger brother and sister-in-law, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Relations between the brothers have remained tense since 2020, when Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties and relocated to California, accusing senior royals — including William and Kate — of mistreatment and bullying.

Though they continue to hold the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, Sykes claims that William intends to formally revoke both the dukedom and their HRH styles once he becomes king. “Meghan and Harry will also see their dukedoms and HRHs formally revoked by the new king,” he told The Daily Beast.

Archie and Lilibet

Even Prince Harry’s children, Archie and Lilibet, could be affected. The siblings, now six and four, were granted the titles of prince and princess after the accession of King Charles III.

But under William’s rule, Sykes believes their titles could be quietly suspended. “William’s own children may have their titles informally parked until they become adults and can decide for themselves if they want to be full-time working royals or lead lives as private citizens,” he said.

For now, Buckingham Palace has not commented on the claims, but if Sykes’ predictions prove true, King William’s reign could usher in one of the most dramatic overhauls of royal titles in modern history — a move signaling his determination to slim down and redefine the monarchy for a new era.
