Meghan Markle complained about the attention that Princess Kate Middleton received

Before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex, she had already shown an interest in royal life through her personal blog. In a 2014 entry on her now-defunct site, The Tig, she reflected on childhood fantasies about princesses and even mentioned Kate Middleton’s wedding.

The Tig and Meghan’s early thoughts on royalty

Meghan launched The Tig in 2014 as a lifestyle blog where she shared her love for food, travel, fashion, and beauty. It also became a space for her personal essays and celebrity interviews. The name came from her fondness for Tignanello wine, which she described as inspiring moments of realization, or what she called “Tig moments.”

Her blog gained a loyal following, with friends and fans calling her an influencer in the making. In the Netflix series Harry and Meghan, released in 2022, her friend Silver Tree described the blog as “like your best friend telling you all the fun things you wish you knew about in one place.”

In one post, Meghan wrote about the fascination many have with royal life. “Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power,” she said, referring to the 1980s cartoon heroine. She added that grown women also hold on to this fantasy, pointing to the worldwide attention around Kate Middleton’s royal wedding.

Leaving The Tig behind for a new life

Despite its success, Meghan shut down The Tig in 2017. At the time, she said she wanted to focus on her acting career on the series Suits and on her humanitarian work. That same year, her relationship with Prince Harry became public. Later, she hinted that her decision to close the blog was also tied to preparing for her life as a royal.

“Well, I loved The Tig, but I certainly love my husband more,” she explained in an interview. “So that was a choice I made at the time, and I would not change that for a second.”

Years later, Meghan revisited the topic while launching her lifestyle brand As Ever in 2025. In her announcement video, she told followers, “If you have followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I have always loved cooking and crafting and gardening. This is what I do, and now I can share it with you again in a new way.”

Looking back at her own words

While Meghan has often said she entered royal life naively, her old blog shows she was at least aware of the fascination surrounding it. In the same 2014 post, she observed the public’s obsession with princesses, writing, “Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.”

Her words from a decade ago now read like a small glimpse into the mindset of someone who would later step into that very world, only to see it from the inside.
