The spotlight is once again on Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s strained relationship, following fresh reports of a disagreement over bridesmaid dresses ahead of the 2018 royal wedding.
Tensions between the two have long been rumored, and as more insider accounts emerge, public curiosity is growing about what really happened behind closed doors.
Meghan, formerly known for her role in Suits, married Prince Harry in a grand ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May 2018.
However, according to Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, things weren’t as flawless as they appeared. He revealed that Meghan and Kate clashed over the bridesmaids’ outfits, which were custom-made ‘French Couture’ dresses.
In true pre-wedding fashion drama, Harry wrote that Kate messaged Meghan just four days before the ceremony, insisting that the dresses needed to be redone.
Harry recalled, “Meg didn’t respond to Kate right away. Sure, she was receiving a flood of wedding-related messages, but most of her attention was on the drama surrounding her father. The next morning, she did text Kate to say that our tailor was ready to help.”
He then added, “But that wasn’t enough.”
This version of events contrasts sharply with what Meghan and Harry shared back in their 2017 engagement interview — a time when things seemed much more positive.
During their sit-down with BBC journalist Mishal Husain, Harry mentioned that the two couples had met “quite a few times” and that everything was going smoothly.
Meghan quickly jumped in with a kind and direct comment: “She’s been wonderful,” referring to Kate.
Harry followed up by saying, “Amazing — and William too, they’ve both been incredibly supportive.”
In the same interview, Meghan, then best known for her role on Suits, admitted that her parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, had some initial worries about her joining the Royal Family.
She said, “At first, I think both my parents and close friends were concerned, because we were suddenly caught in a media frenzy that I’d never experienced before. But even with all that, they had never seen me this happy.”
Tensions reportedly rose before the wedding when Harry claimed that Kate had complained about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress, saying it was “too big, too long, too baggy” and that Charlotte had cried when trying it on at home.
According to reports, Meghan responded: “Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8am. Here. At KP. Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing?”
Kate then allegedly insisted that all the bridesmaids’ dresses be completely redone, even involving Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen to support her position.
After more back-and-forth, Harry said he later came home to find Meghan “sobbing on the floor.”
It’s believed that the following day, the Princess of Wales sent Meghan flowers and a card to apologize.
