In 2016, two years before Meghan Markle walked into St George’s Chapel to marry Prince Harry, her ex-husband Trevor Engelson reportedly made a striking prediction about her future. The claim resurfaced this week and has quickly drawn attention, not only because of its timing but because of how confidently it was allegedly delivered.
A Look Back at Meghan and Engelson’s History
Before her royal chapter began, Meghan was married to American film producer and literary manager Trevor Engelson. They met in 2004 when she was twenty three and he was twenty eight. After seven years of dating, they married at the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios. By 2013 the marriage had ended quietly, with both citing irreconcilable differences and completing a no fault divorce.

Three years later, Meghan was living and working in Toronto while filming Suits. That same year, she was introduced to Prince Harry on a blind date at Soho House in London. The connection was immediate. Within weeks she had joined Harry on a charity trip to Botswana, a moment both later described as a turning point in their relationship.
The Alleged Prediction
According to reality star Bethenny Frankel, who shared the story on The Toast podcast, she became friendly with Engelson around the time rumors first suggested that Meghan and Harry were secretly dating. Frankel recalled that Engelson mentioned his ex had been on a show called Suits. At the time she had no idea who Meghan was.
Months later, photos surfaced confirming that Harry was indeed seeing an actress from Suits. Frankel texted Engelson to ask whether the woman in the pictures was his ex. He confirmed it was.

Frankel said she then asked him whether he thought Meghan would commit to the relationship. According to her, Engelson replied with certainty that Meghan would complete the relationship and move forward. Frankel summed up his confidence with his remark that Meghan would close. She admitted that her own reaction was a stunned message that read, holy s**t, your ex is going to be a princess.
Engelson has since remarried and welcomed children with his wife Tracey Kurland, while Meghan’s path unfolded exactly as predicted. Less than two years after the text exchange, Meghan married Prince Harry in Windsor and became the Duchess of Sussex.
Today, Meghan and Harry are parents to Archie, six, and Lilibet, four. The family lives in Montecito, California, where they settled after stepping back from their royal roles in 2020.
