Meghan Markle recently spoke about her vision for the future of her two children with Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, during an appearance on The Circuit podcast with host Emily Chang.
While chatting outdoors with a drink, Chang asked Meghan if she wished for anything different for her children compared to what she and Harry had experienced, especially regarding family.
“Oh yeah,” Meghan replied without hesitation. “I want them to have the fullness of life and family and support.”
She went on to compare this vision with the kind of support she and Harry “have had and that we do have in many ways.”
Family Tensions
Meghan’s remarks come against the backdrop of ongoing tension between the Sussexes and the Royal Family since their decision to step back from royal duties in 2020. She also remains estranged from her father, Thomas Markle, who has never met his grandchildren.
Looking toward the future, Meghan expressed her hope that Archie and Lilibet will have the freedom to shape their own lives.
“I want them to be able to carve out the life they want for themselves,” she explained.
She added that this approach would, in some ways, mirror the decisions she and Harry have made. “That will very much be, not necessarily mimicking, but that’ll be very much reflective of the choices my husband and I have made.”
Although she did not specify which choices she meant, the discussion soon shifted to other topics.
Reflections on Royal Expectations
Elsewhere in the conversation, Meghan reflected on some of the constraints she faced while living as a senior royal.
She admitted that expectations often kept her from being her true self. “I think probably it was different several years ago where I couldn’t be as vocal and I had to wear nude pantyhose all the time,” she said.
“Let’s be honest, that was very not myself,” she continued, describing the dress code as “a little bit inauthentic.”
Although she acknowledged the example might sound “silly,” she said it symbolized a time when she could not dress freely or speak as openly as she can now.
Meghan explained that she now feels comfortable expressing herself in a more genuine way. “Show up in a space really organically and authentically, that’s been comfortable in your own skin,” she said.
Podcast and Projects
The podcast episode, released on August 26, touched on different aspects of Meghan’s personal life and her current projects. It coincided with the release of the second season of her Netflix lifestyle show With Love, Meghan.
During the interview, she also defended her series, suggesting critics may be motivated by financial reasons, remarking that some people might simply “criticise it to pay the bills.”
