Prince George ‘got Spencer genes’ as resemblance to family member sees fans divided

As Prince George marks his 12th birthday today (July 22), fans across the world are sharing warm wishes—and some have sparked a lively debate over who the young royal resembles most.

Despite his young age, Prince George has already become one of the most admired members of the royal family. He’s even started taking part in official engagements alongside his parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

As he grows older, royal watchers have taken note of how much he looks like certain members of his extended family, particularly on his father’s side.

Spencer Family Resemblance?

Some royal fans believe George bears a strong resemblance to his late grandmother, Princess Diana, née Diana Frances Spencer.

But it’s not just Diana they see in him. One fan on TikTok compiled a comparison video of George with various Spencer family members, including his great-grandfather John Spencer, great-uncle Charles Spencer, and Charles’ son, Louis Spencer. The video caption read: “You can even see his Granny Diana in him,” along with a heart emoji.

The post prompted many comments, with one viewer writing, “He could pass as Charles Spencer’s son or a young Charles Spencer.” Others weren’t so convinced.

One commenter wrote, “Am I the only one that doesn’t see Charles Spencer in him?” followed by a crying emoji, before adding, “I think he looks more like Diana. I’ve always said Prince George reminds me of Diana’s father the Earl – first time anyone agreed with me.”

Of course, some fans also pointed out that George resembles his mother, the Princess of Wales. One observer noted, “He has brown eyes from his mother. The Spencers are blue-eyed.” Another added, “I think George looks like his dad, Charlotte looks like Queen Elizabeth, and Louis looks like his maternal grandfather.”

A Royal Life from the Start

Prince George was born at St Mary’s Hospital in London on July 22, 2013. He spent the early months of his life with his parents in Anglesey, Wales, before the family moved into Kensington Palace in 2014. That same year, he went on his first official royal tour to Australia and New Zealand—a three-week trip that marked the beginning of his public life.

Now, as George steps into his teenage years, he continues to set an example for his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte (10) and Prince Louis (7), while growing into his own role in the royal family.
