Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis set for ‘big royal appearance’ in just weeks

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are expected to make a prominent royal appearance alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla on May 8, during the 80th anniversary of VE Day—a major moment of national remembrance.

The 76-year-old monarch is set to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony with his close family after a grand military procession and a breathtaking flypast featuring both vintage and modern aircraft, including the iconic RAF Red Arrows.

According to reports, the three young royals—Prince George, 11, Charlotte, who turns 10 on May 2, and Louis, who will be seven—will stand beside their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, during the event.

“His Majesty is dedicated to bringing his family and the country together in honour of Britain’s war dead and recreating the sense of community that came with the celebrations to mark VE Day,” a source told Russell Myers, royal editor at the Mirror.

“The four days of commemorations will be a fantastic opportunity for the country to unite for such a special occasion, 80 years after victory was declared in Europe.”

Despite ongoing cancer treatment, the King reportedly hopes to project strength and solidarity during this important time.

Alongside the King and Queen Camilla, several senior royals are expected to attend the commemorations. The Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh with their children are all anticipated to take part.

Victory in Europe (VE) Day, falling on Thursday, May 8, marks the official end of World War II in Europe and the Allied victory over Nazi Germany.

This year’s tributes will span four days, starting Monday, May 5. Highlights will include a military march from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace, a royal balcony appearance, and the VE Day 80 concert.

The concert is scheduled to be broadcast live on BBC One at 8pm GMT on May 8.

After what has been a tough year for the royal family, the anniversary is expected to offer a moving display of unity and perseverance.

“It is absolutely right that we ensure that the stories of those who lived through and fought in the Second World War are remembered by generations to come,” said Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy.

“We will bring to life the stories of those no longer with us. So that the next generation is able to honour their sacrifice.”

More than 12,500 people—including veterans, members of the military, youth groups, and students—are set to attend the VE Day 80 concert. Commemorative events will also be held overseas in countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand.

George, Charlotte, and Louis have often accompanied their parents during major royal occasions, including the annual Trooping the Colour celebration in June, which marks the sovereign’s official birthday.

With any luck, they’ll be part of this year’s festivities as well.
