Prince Harry is reportedly feeling deeply anxious and “beside himself” with concern over King Charles’ health following the monarch’s recent hospitalization linked to complications from ongoing cancer treatment.
An insider close to the royal family has revealed that the Duke of Sussex is intent on traveling back to the UK — and is “begging” Meghan Markle to accompany him for what could be a heartfelt reunion with his father.
Although the 76-year-old king resumed his royal engagements this week and is said to be doing well, Harry, still thousands of miles away in Montecito, California, remains worried.
Prince Harry is ‘eager’ to reconnect with King Charles
“Knowing that his father’s condition was serious enough to require hospitalization has really shaken Harry,” a source told Heat. “He’s panicked and distraught, afraid things might worsen before there’s a chance to make amends. Despite everything that’s happened, he still cares deeply for his dad. Watching from afar and feeling powerless is truly breaking his heart.”
Now 40, Harry is said to be “eager” to heal the rift with King Charles before it’s too late.
He’s reportedly been in touch with palace staff frequently, working to coordinate a trip.
“He’s urging Meghan to return with him,” the source continued. “He’s determined to go, and he wants her to be there too.”
Watching from afar and feeling powerless is truly breaking his heart.
The relationship between the Sussexes and the royal family has remained tense ever since their departure from royal roles in 2020 and their explosive 2021 interview with Oprah, where they spoke of mistreatment within the royal institution.
Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare, reportedly widened the divide, as it contained pointed criticisms of Prince William, Princess Kate, and Queen Camilla.
Meghan Markle reportedly has ‘real concerns’ about returning to the UK
Meanwhile, Meghan, 43, is said to be hesitant about the idea of returning to Britain.
Although she is concerned about Charles’ condition, she reportedly fears that her reappearance could spark a media frenzy and unintentionally create more trouble than good.
“She has real concerns,” the source said. “She’s worried that joining Harry might turn the trip into a spectacle. The last thing she wants is for their presence to take focus away from the purpose of the visit.”
Still, Harry is said to believe her presence would send a powerful message — that the family still matters to them — and potentially help melt the ice.
He’s reportedly reminding her of the once-warm relationship she shared with Charles, who walked her down the aisle at their 2018 wedding when her own father was unable to attend.
Harry ‘would be overjoyed’ if Meghan agreed to join him
As King Charles continues his fight with cancer and the royal family faces mounting public pressure, Harry finds himself at a pivotal emotional juncture.
His visit could pave the way toward long-awaited reconciliation — or, depending on how it unfolds, drive the wedge deeper.
The source noted Harry “would be overjoyed if Meghan joined him for the trip.”
Regardless, the Duke still plans to make the journey — though the source added he will wait for an official green light from the king’s office.
