Prince William and Princess Kate have long been known for keeping their affection private. But recently, royal watchers have noticed something different — the couple has been more openly loving than ever.
From sweet Valentine’s tributes to holding hands during engagements in Wales, the future King and Queen have been showing a renewed warmth in front of the cameras. They even have a glamorous date night scheduled at the Royal Variety Performance.
So what changed?
A New Chapter After Kate’s Health Battle
According to royal experts speaking to People Magazine, the shift began as Kate returned to public life following her cancer battle. After revealing in January that she was in remission, she slowly stepped back into her royal duties — determined, experts say, to embrace a new phase of life.
Royal author Ingrid Seward explained:
“They are happy for people to see them be touchy-feely. They are in a different phase of their life now. William is very protective and proud of her for coming through this and carrying on with her life.”
Historian Amanda Foreman echoed the sentiment, noting that their closeness reflects the stability the public needs during uncertain global times:
“There is a sense of protectiveness and partnership. If ever the country required stability, it is now.”

Balancing Togetherness With Independence
Despite showing a united front, both royals have also taken on their own solo moments.
-
William attended an Aston Villa match.
-
Kate resumed her beloved tradition of handing out St. Patrick’s Day shamrocks — a duty she had to postpone last year.
These moments, biographer Robert Hardman said, help them “reset the dial” and find balance after an intense year.
William at His ‘Lowest’ During Kate’s Diagnosis
The couple’s difficult journey behind the scenes also explains their renewed closeness.
Earlier this year, former palace aide Jason Knauf revealed on 60 Minutes Australia that Kate’s diagnosis was the “lowest” he had ever seen Prince William.
“Within weeks, he discovered both his wife and father had cancer. I couldn’t believe it.”
He described the moment William told him the news:
“It was awful. The lowest I’ve ever seen him.”
Their decision to keep the diagnosis private at first — due to not yet informing their children — only added pressure, especially as conspiracy theories exploded online.

Knauf said the experience pushed them to refocus on what matters most:
creating time to “be parents first.”
After everything they’ve endured, it’s no surprise the couple is more openly affectionate — and fans seem delighted to see it.
