Another showed $3,200 in airfare to Cabo, with Vanessa Cole listed as the second passenger.

Additional records documented expensive restaurants, gifts, private transportation, resort expenses, and personal travel presented as business development.

Ryan shook his head.

“Those were legitimate marketing expenses, and I can explain every charge.”

Claire looked toward Vanessa.

“The necklace around Ms. Cole’s neck will be considerably harder to categorize as marketing.”

Vanessa raised one hand instinctively toward the blue diamond.

Claire continued.

“That necklace belonged to my grandmother. Ryan removed it from my jewelry collection after telling me he was taking it for repair.”

Ryan stepped forward.

“Claire, listen to me before you do something irreversible. Vanessa and I were testing weaknesses in the corporate expense system, and some of those charges were part of a controlled experiment.”

A ripple of incredulous laughter moved through the ballroom.

Ryan became desperate.

“I love you, Claire. Whatever happened between Vanessa and me does not erase our marriage.”

Claire studied him quietly.

“You do not love me, Ryan. You love the version of yourself that I spent five years polishing for you.”

She faced the audience again.

“As Chair of SkyArc Systems, I am confirming Ryan Bennett’s immediate termination for serious misconduct, misuse of corporate funds, and violations of internal financial controls. Our compliance team, forensic accountants, and outside counsel have already preserved the relevant records for whatever civil, employment, tax, or regulatory action is appropriate.”

Ryan’s legs visibly weakened.

Claire removed a thick envelope from her handbag and placed it on the podium.

“As your wife, I am also informing you that divorce proceedings are beginning immediately. From this moment forward, communication concerning our marriage will go through attorneys.”

Ryan stared at the envelope.

Vanessa began quietly moving toward the stairs.
