I was b.r.e.a.s.t.feeding the twins when my husband stood before me and coldly declared, “Get ready. We’re moving to my mother’s house.” Before I could understand anything, he continued as if it were the most natural thing in the world: “My brother and his family will move into your apartment. And you… will sleep in the storage room at my mother’s place.”

Part 1 of 2

I was breastfeeding the twins when my husband stood over me and said, in the coldest voice I’d ever heard, “Pack up. We’re moving to my mother’s house.”

Before I could even process the words, he added calmly, as if stating the weather, “My brother and his family will take this apartment. And you… you’ll sleep in the storage room at my mom’s place.”

I froze. My hands shook around my babies. Then the doorbell rang—and when he saw who stood there, my husband nearly went white. It was my two brothers… the most feared CEOs in the city.

Alyssa sat at the edge of the bed, her newborn twins tucked against her as she tried to soothe their cries.

Three months of recovery, almost no sleep, and carrying nearly all the childcare alone had drained every bit of her strength. She thought her husband, Daniel, had come in to help.

Instead, he stared down at her like a stranger.

“Pack your things,” he repeated. “We’re leaving for my mother’s.”

Alyssa blinked, stunned. “What? Why now? The babies—”

“My brother and his wife need space,” he said sharply. “They’re moving in here. You’ll stay in the storage room at Mom’s. It’s only temporary. Don’t make a fuss.”

Her mouth fell open. “A storage room? Daniel, I just had surgery. The twins need stability—”

“You’re overreacting,” he snapped. “My family needs help. And I’m not asking for your permission.”

The words crushed her like a blow.

Before she could speak, the doorbell rang. Daniel adjusted his sleeves, trying to look composed—but when he opened the door, all the color drained from his face.

Standing there were her brothers—Nathan and Adrian Cole—co-founders of Cole Dynamics, both tall, powerful, and radiating a silent storm.

Nathan’s eyes flicked to Alyssa’s trembling hands and the babies clinging to her.

Adrian’s voice dropped to something dark. “Daniel… we need to talk.”

Daniel swallowed hard, panic flickering in his expression.

The tension crashed into the room like a wave.

Alyssa laid the twins gently in their crib as Nathan stepped in without waiting for an invitation. Adrian shut the door behind him.

Daniel forced a weak smile. “I didn’t know you were coming.”

“We didn’t announce it,” Nathan said. “Alyssa told us what happened.”

Alyssa felt tears she didn’t know she’d been holding finally loosen. She hadn’t expected them to rush over. She’d only sent one desperate text.

Adrian stepped closer. “We heard you’ve been making decisions for our sister. Decisions like throwing her into a storage room.”

Daniel lifted his hands. “You don’t understand. My family is complicated. My mother—”

Nathan cut him off. “Your mother doesn’t decide where she sleeps. And she doesn’t get to separate her from her babies.”
