‘It Makes Me Ill to See Her Wear This’: Queen Camilla Dons Queen Elizabeth’s Tiara, Sparking Heated Talks

Part 1 of 2

Qatar’s Royal Couple attended a feast held by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, but the Queen’s headpiece was the main attraction, not the lavishness of the event.

In a gesture steeped in royal history, Queen Camilla wore the famous crown of the late Queen Elizabeth II for a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace. Online responses to the decision were divided, despite the fact that it represented continuity in the monarchy.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, and Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani were recognized at the December 3 event. About 150 people came to celebrate the close diplomatic, cultural, and commercial relations between the UK and Qatar.

Camilla donned a red velvet evening gown by Fiona Clare for the event. She accessorized it with the diamond Kokoshnik tiara, which is strongly associated with the deceased Queen.

Her clothing evoked strong feelings on the internet even though it was a nod to royal custom. “It makes me ill too see her wear this crown [sic],” one critic commented. An another person sarcastically expressed disdain of Camilla’s selection of the tiara.

“I’m sure Queen Elizabeth is screaming from her grave to take off her jewels,” said another scathing commenter. “I don’t think she was a fan of Camilla’s.” One of the others said quite plainly, “This is an utter disgrace.”
