Meghan Markle made ‘subtle change’ to Prince Archie’s birthday post following backlash

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son, Archie, just turned six this week, and to celebrate, the Duchess of Sussex shared a sweet photo of him.

In the picture, Archie is seen standing on a balcony, looking away from the camera. He seems to be watching a beautiful sunset in the distance. Meghan wrote next to the photo:

“Our son. Our sun.

Happy 6th birthday to Archie!

Thank you for all of the love, prayers, and warm wishes for our sweet boy. He’s six! Where did the time go?

(And for all of you who came to celebrate with us at his party last weekend, thank you for making his birthday so incredibly special).”

According to DailyMail.com, there was one small detail Meghan left out of the caption, which some people noticed — especially after some recent criticism.

In her message, Meghan simply called him “Archie” instead of using his full royal title, “Prince Archie.”

Royal watchers may remember that Prince William and Kate Middleton usually include their children’s titles in birthday posts.

This comes not long after Meghan was criticised last month for reportedly using her “HRH” title, even though she and Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

During a podcast interview with her friend Jamie Kern Lima, which was posted on YouTube, Meghan was chatting when a picture appeared showing a gift basket of ice cream and homemade strawberry sauce that she had sent to Kern Lima.

There was a note included, printed on monogrammed paper, which said: “With the compliments of HRH the Duchess of Sussex.”

Meghan and Harry stepped down from their roles as senior working royals back in March 2020. They later moved to California and signed big deals with Spotify and Netflix to support themselves, according to The Times.

The outlet also reported that Harry and Meghan had agreed with the late Queen Elizabeth II that they would no longer use their HRH titles, even though they would still keep them. Because of this, Prince Harry’s HRH title was removed from the royal family’s website, Royal.uk, in late 2023.

Back in 2020, the Palace confirmed in a statement that the Sussexes “will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the royal family.”

According to The Times, this likely means they can’t use the HRH titles for things like promoting TV shows or other commercial projects. That’s why Meghan is credited as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in her Netflix lifestyle series.

In response, the couple’s representatives told Hello! Magazine that they “do not use” their HRH titles, even though the titles haven’t been officially removed.

As for Meghan not using a title for Archie, it’s unclear if that was on purpose. But since the family is no longer part of royal duties, it makes sense he’s just called Archie.
