I knew instantly that my life was about to change again.

Dr. Prescott sat quietly for several seconds before speaking.

Finally, he looked up.

“Damian is my son.”

I stared at him.

“Your son?”

He nodded.

“Constance and I divorced many years ago. Afterward, she made certain that Damian and I would never have a relationship. Every letter I sent was returned. Every attempt to contact him failed.”

I looked down at my baby.

“Then why were you crying earlier?”

A sad smile appeared on his face.

“Because your son carries the same birthmark that Damian had as a child. I recognized it immediately.”

He paused.

“I realized that my grandson had entered this world surrounded by pain he never deserved.”

The following morning, Damian returned with attorneys.

Constance walked into the room wearing black clothing, as though she had come to attend a ceremony rather than visit her grandson.

One of the lawyers placed several documents on my table.

“Mrs. Sutton, we strongly recommend cooperation.”

The door suddenly opened again.

My attorney, Rebecca Holloway, stepped into the room.

Behind her stood two investigators.

Damian’s confidence disappeared.

Rebecca placed a tablet on the table.

“Actually, Amelia has considerable evidence.”

She calmly listed financial irregularities, false statements, forged documents, and attempts to pressure me into giving up custody.

Constance turned pale.

Damian looked toward his father.

“You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”

Samuel’s expression remained calm.

“No. I’m simply tired of watching people hurt one another.”

For the first time, Damian seemed genuinely afraid.

A New Beginning

The legal process continued for months.

Investigators reviewed financial records.

Several businesses connected to Damian were forced to answer difficult questions.

The court eventually dismissed the custody petition.

Life slowly became quieter.

One year later, I opened my own consulting company.
