Instead, I Smiled and Told My Manager, “Serve Them Like Queens.” Three Hours Later, When She Called My Husband to Make Me Forgive the $26,000 Bill, He Was the One Who Revealed the Secret She Never Expected to Hear

Part 2 of 3

“I knew something was going to happen.”

Twenty minutes later, one of my servers told me Nadine wanted to speak with me.

When I entered the private dining room, empty plates and glasses covered the tables.

Nadine was glowing.

Her friends kept telling her how generous she was.

Then she handed me several pages.

“Bryce asked me to make sure you sign these.”

I looked down.

My attorney had already warned me about them.

They were documents designed to give Bryce far greater authority over the restaurant’s finances.

I slowly closed the pages.

“Why would I sign this?”

Nadine gave me a patient smile.

“Because Bryce should be handling the important financial decisions. You’re wonderful with food, Delaney. Let him handle the business.”

A few women nodded.

I looked around the room.

Then I smiled.

“I’ll bring your check.”

Nadine relaxed.

She thought she had won.

The $26,000 Check

The final total was a little over $26,000.

I printed the itemized bill.

Then I went into my office and retrieved a dark blue folder.

Inside were copies of the divorce documents, financial records, and evidence showing where some of the restaurant’s missing money had gone.

I placed the folder beneath the check and walked back into the private room.

Several women were already putting on their coats.

“Before everyone leaves, we need to settle the bill.”

Nadine laughed.

“What bill?”

I placed it in front of her.

She looked down.

Her expression changed instantly.

“Twenty-six thousand dollars?”

“You ordered for thirty-nine people.”

She stared at me.

“You cannot seriously expect me to pay this.”

The room became quiet.

I tilted my head.

“You told everyone you were paying.”

One of her friends looked uncomfortable.

“Nadine, you did say that.”

Nadine waved her hand.

“I meant Bryce would take care of it.”

I nodded.

“Then call Bryce.”

She grabbed her phone.

I think she believed this was the moment I would finally be humiliated.

She put him on speaker.

“Bryce, your wife has completely lost her mind. She’s trying to charge me twenty-six thousand dollars for lunch. Tell her to clear this ridiculous bill and sign the papers I brought.”

There was silence.

Then Bryce spoke.

“Mom… what did you do?”

Nadine frowned.

“What do you mean?”

“Why would you order twenty-six thousand dollars of food?”

Her face tightened.

“Because it’s our restaurant!”

Another silence.

Then Bryce said the sentence she had never expected to hear.

“Mom, it was never our restaurant.”

The Truth Came Out in Front of Everyone

Nadine went completely still.

“Excuse me?”

Bryce sighed.

“I never paid for Juniper Table. Delaney built it.”

Several women turned toward Nadine.

One whispered:

“You told us Bryce owned it.”

Nadine ignored her.

“But you’re taking control of it now.”

Bryce didn’t answer.

So I did.

“No, he isn’t.”

I opened the blue folder.

“Those papers will never be signed.”

Then I placed the divorce documents on the table.

“And there is something else you should know. Bryce and I are no longer married.”

Nadine stared at the papers.

“What?”

“The divorce was finalized.”

Her face lost its color.

“You can’t do this without talking to the family.”

I almost laughed.

Instead, I looked directly at her.

“My marriage required two people, Nadine. It did not require a committee.”

Nobody spoke.

Then one of her friends asked the question Nadine had been avoiding.

“So who is paying for lunch?”

I slid the check toward her again.

“The woman who repeatedly announced that she was treating everyone.”

The Secret Bryce Had Been Hiding From His Own Mother

Nadine called Bryce again.

This time, she wasn’t trying to impress anyone.

“Pay this bill.”

His answer came quietly.

“I can’t.”

“What do you mean, you can’t?”

“I don’t have twenty-six thousand dollars.”

Nadine looked genuinely confused.

She had spent years presenting her son as a wealthy businessman.

Then I removed several bank statements from the folder.

“Would you like to explain why?”

Bryce went silent.

I continued.

“Or should I?”

The records showed significant personal spending and transfers that had come from money intended for restaurant operations.

Some of it was connected to hotels and gifts.

Then another truth surfaced.

Bryce admitted that not all the money had been spent on the woman he had been seeing.
