Prince William suffers abuse as four-word chant is hurled at him during latest appearance

Football fans jeered at Prince William during his recent appearance at a match, with some even showing disrespect toward the late Queen.

As a passionate football enthusiast, the Prince of Wales has frequently attended major games in recent years, often accompanied by his children.

His allegiance has always been clear—he’s a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa. While Villa fans typically rally behind both their team and their most well-known royal supporter, visiting teams don’t always share the same sentiment.

On Wednesday night (January 29), Aston Villa faced off against Celtic, a Scottish club, in a Champions League clash.

After spotting Prince William in the crowd, opposing fans wasted no time in taunting him throughout the match.

Chants aimed at him included “Lizzie’s in a box,” a reference to the late Queen Elizabeth II, as well as “If you hate the Royal Family, clap your hands.”

In addition to the chants, away supporters unveiled a banner in the stands glorifying an intruder who broke into Queen Elizabeth II’s Buckingham Palace bedroom just days after Prince William was born.

However, William appeared unfazed by the hostility, instead focusing on celebrating Villa’s 4-2 victory on home turf.

Home fans attempted to drown out the jeers by singing the national anthem and waving Union Flags in support of the Prince.

This isn’t the first time Celtic Football Club has shown disrespect toward the Royal Family during a football match.

The team had already faced a fine back in October 2022 after fans unfurled “provocative” anti-monarchy banners during a Champions League match, which took place less than a week after Queen Elizabeth II passed away.

One banner read “F**k the crown,” while another referenced Michael Fagan—the man who infamously broke into the Queen’s bedroom in 1982—with the words “Sorry For Your Loss Michael Fagan.”

Fagan, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia before the incident, is said to have spent around 10 minutes speaking with the Queen about his family.

Reports suggest that, at first, the Queen mistook him for an intoxicated staff member wandering the grounds. However, he was soon tackled and removed from the premises by a duty footman.

Since trespassing was only considered a civil offense at the time, Fagan wasn’t charged for breaking in. Instead, he faced burglary charges for allegedly taking a bottle of wine from the palace grounds.
