Storm Kristine Just Passed, Super Storm Kong-Reys Comes Agains

On October 28, the Philippines issued a warning for a new storm, just days after more than 100 people lost their lives due to the worst typhoon of the year, Trami.

The heartbreaking story of a man who lost his wife and five children due to Typhoon Trami highlights the tragedy faced by many families.

The death toll from Typhoon Trami has risen to 116, with 39 people still missing. This storm has caused severe damage across the Philippines, leaving nearly 1 million people seeking shelter in evacuation centers after losing their homes or facing flooding when Tropical Storm Trami struck on October 22.

On October 28, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Tropical Storm Kong-rey is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to land in the coming hours, causing rough seas off the eastern coast.

Kong-rey is forecasted to strengthen into a typhoon by Tuesday, October 29, and could pass near the small islands of the Philippines to the north as early as October 30, according to the weather agency’s report.

The lowest storm warning level of five is currently in effect along the northeastern coast of the Philippines.

“Given the current developments, it is possible that Typhoon Kong-rey will shift westward and approach the Philippines faster than previously expected,” the weather agency warned.

Kong-rey is predicted to make landfall in Taiwan (China) with considerable strength early in the morning on November 1.

About 20 major storms and tropical cyclones hit the Philippines or nearby waters each year, destroying homes and infrastructure while claiming many lives.
