GLAS Video Moral Stories

“Children Are The Future. Wives Eventually Become The Past.” My Husband’s Pregnant Mistress Put Her Hand On My Chair And Said Those Words While My Husband Said Nothing. I Smiled And Replied, “Perhaps The Future Should Wait Until The Paternity Results Are Discussed.” Her Face Changed Instantly. So Did My Husband’s.

Part 2 of 3

Harrison Mercer.

I read the conclusion three times.

Harrison was excluded as the biological father.

For several minutes, I listened to the antique clock above my mother’s fireplace while everything rearranged itself.

Then I checked the dates.

The test had been completed eleven days earlier.

Harrison received the result nine days earlier.

Seven days earlier, he attended a recorded foundation governance meeting where Clause Seventeen was explicitly discussed.

During that meeting, he continued referring to Celeste’s unborn child as his own.

He was not mistaken.

He knew.

I called Margaret.

“Send me the recording of last Tuesday’s donor governance meeting.”

“Why?”

I looked at the report.

“Because Mom was right about Harrison.”

That was the only time I cried that week.

Not because the unborn child was not biologically his.

Not because Celeste was pregnant.

I cried because I finally understood what Harrison was building.

He was not merely creating a life with another woman.

He was creating leverage.

He intended to use Celeste’s pregnancy as a public symbol connecting himself to Whitaker philanthropic authority while knowing the child had no automatic biological connection to the inheritance narrative he was promoting.

Perhaps he genuinely planned to raise the child.

That was not the problem.

The problem was that he knew the truth and chose a more useful public fiction.

I copied the relevant governance recording onto a small flash drive.

File One.

Then I placed the laboratory report inside a plain cream envelope.

At dinner, I hid it beneath my plate.

I wanted Harrison to speak before seeing it.

Men like him were often most truthful when they believed nobody had enough evidence to challenge them.

PART 4: FILE ONE

Back in the ballroom, Harrison recovered from my reference to paternity faster than I expected.

He stepped toward the microphone.

“I apologize for the unnecessary tension. Tonight should be about healing, legacy, and moving forward.”

Then he made the mistake that finished him.

“Celeste and I believe the new wing should be named the Mercer Future Maternal Recovery Center in honor of our child.”

Even Celeste looked surprised.

I opened the leather portfolio.

“Clause Fourteen.”

Harrison stared at me.

I read the provision governing public misrepresentation of donor authority, naming rights, and inheritance status.

Then Clause Seventeen.

Whispers moved across the ballroom.

Celeste released Harrison’s hand.

“What is she talking about?”

He did not answer.

I removed the flash drive and slid it toward Allison Grant.

“Please open File One.”

Harrison moved immediately.

“Do not play that.”

My aunt Margaret stood.

She did not threaten him.

She simply looked at Allison.

“Play it.”

The ballroom screen illuminated.

The recorded governance meeting appeared.

Harrison sat confidently at one side of the video.

Foundation counsel spoke first.

“Mr. Mercer, you acknowledge that the Whitaker Foundation retains sole donor naming authority under this agreement?”

Recorded Harrison smiled.

“Of course.”

“And your honorary campaign position creates no independent authority regarding naming, inheritance representations, or governance commitments?”

“I understand.”

Then counsel referenced Clause Seventeen.

“Any unborn or minor child publicly described as an heir for foundation governance purposes requires verification.”

Recorded Harrison laughed.

“The child is mine. There is nothing ambiguous here.”

Counsel answered:

“Then verification should create no difficulty.”

“None whatsoever.”

Allison paused the recording.

Present-day Harrison laughed too loudly.

“So what? That proves exactly what I have been saying.”

I reached beneath my plate.

Celeste stared at the cream envelope.

“What is that?”

For the first time that night, my hand shook.

There was an unborn child inside this disaster.

That child had done nothing wrong.

I looked at Allison.

“Please turn off the screens.”

She complied.

Then I addressed the room.

“The document in this envelope contains private medical information, and I will not display it. However, its relevant legal significance is simple: when Harrison made the recorded statement you just heard, he already possessed prenatal testing excluding him as the biological father.”

The ballroom erupted into whispers.

Celeste turned toward him.

“That is impossible.”

“Celeste—”

“You told me the test confirmed you were the father.”

That was the final piece I had not known.

Harrison tried to take her arm.

She stepped away.

“Do not touch me.”

Celeste looked at me.

“What does the report actually say?”

I handed her the envelope.

Harrison stepped between us.

“You have no right.”

Celeste stared at him.

“She has no right?”

I passed the envelope around his body.

“It concerns you. Read it yourself.”

Her fingers trembled as she unfolded the paper.

Then her face emptied.

“You lied.”

Harrison lowered his voice.

“It changes nothing.”

“You told me the laboratory confirmed it.”

“I was protecting us.”

“From what?”

He gestured toward the room, the donors, and me.

Toward consequences.

Celeste slowly looked at the chair she had demanded.

Then the covered plaque.

Then the cameras.

Understanding arrived.

“You brought me here because you needed people to see me pregnant beside you.”

Harrison said nothing.

“You needed the photograph before anyone questioned the facts.”

His silence answered.

PART 5: THE FUTURE HE TRIED TO MANUFACTURE

Harrison immediately attempted to recover the room.

He was talented under pressure.

“Family is not merely DNA,” he announced. “A father is also the person who chooses to remain.”

The statement itself was true.

That was what made him dangerous.

He often attached truthful principles to dishonest intentions.

I stepped toward the microphone.

“You are right. Family is not merely DNA.”

He stopped.

“You may love this child. You may help raise the child. If Celeste and the law allow it, you may eventually become the child’s legal father.”

Celeste lowered her eyes.

“But you cannot knowingly use a child who is not biologically yours to manufacture an inheritance claim under an agreement that explicitly requires verification.”

I looked directly at him.

“This is not about whether you can love a child. It is about whether you are entitled to lie.”

Margaret opened her copy of the agreement.

“Under Clause Fourteen, Harrison Mercer’s honorary role representing the Whitaker campaign is terminated immediately.”

Harrison turned toward her.
